A Morning of Celebration at the Music Hall

At 10:00 a.m. on a Friday morning , the students of Denby High School gathered at Detroit Music Hall for a celebration of achievement and school pride. The program began as valedictorian Iyanna Morris stepped onto the stage and delivered a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, earning a standing ovation from the audience.

Throughout the morning, students were recognized for their accomplishments in academics, athletics, and leadership. Teachers, parents, and classmates cheered as award recipients crossed the stage.

Near the end of the program, Principal Kianta Bankston addressed the crowd.

"Your character matters," she said. "Always remember to do the right thing when no one's watching."

The auditorium grew quiet.

Then she smiled and said, "And always remember..."

Without hesitation, hundreds of students rose to their feet and shouted:

"GO TARS!"

The crowd erupted in applause, ending a memorable morning filled with Denby pride.

Under the Lights: Denby High School's 2026 Senior Prom

The ballroom sparkled in blue and gold as Denby High School's Class of 2026 arrived for senior prom. Laughter filled the room as friends posed for photos, showing off elegant dresses, sharp tuxedos, and matching corsages.

For many seniors, it was hard to believe how quickly four years had passed. They talked about football games, spirit weeks, late-night study sessions, and the friendships that had carried them through high school.

As the DJ played their favorite songs, the dance floor quickly filled. Some students danced nonstop, while others gathered at tables to share memories and dream about the future. Teachers and chaperones smiled as they watched the seniors celebrate one of the final milestones of their high school journey.

Near the end of the evening, the lights dimmed and everyone formed a large circle on the dance floor. Arms wrapped around shoulders, students sang along to the final song, laughing and wiping away tears.

When the music ended, no one wanted to leave.

The Class of 2026 knew that graduation was just around the corner, but on this special night, they were simply friends celebrating the memories they would carry forever.

Denby's 9th and 10th Graders Visit Greenfield Village

On a beautiful spring morning, Denby High School's 9th and 10th graders boarded buses for an exciting field trip to Greenfield Village. Excitement filled the air as students arrived and stepped into a world where history came alive.

Throughout the day, students explored historic homes, watched blacksmiths at work, and visited famous sites such as Thomas Edison's Menlo Park Laboratory and the Wright brothers' bicycle shop. They learned how inventors, entrepreneurs, and ordinary Americans helped shape the nation's history.

Many students were amazed to see life before modern technology. Others enjoyed riding in a Model T or asking questions to the costumed interpreters who shared stories from the past.

Teachers encouraged students to connect what they learned to their classroom studies and to think about how innovation and determination continue to shape society today.

As the buses returned to Detroit, students laughed and shared their favorite memories, agreeing that the trip was both educational and unforgettable—a day when history leaped off the page and into their lives.

2026 Denby Spring Concert

The excitement could be felt throughout the hallways of Denby High School as the annual Spring Concert approached. For weeks, students had been practicing before school, after school, and during every music class under the direction of their dedicated music teacher, Mr. Nuss.

Mr. Nuss was known for his passion for music and his belief that every student could succeed with hard work and determination. Whether students played an instrument, sang in the choir, or were learning music for the very first time, he encouraged them to do their best and take pride in their accomplishments.

As concert day arrived, the auditorium slowly filled with parents, family members, teachers, and community supporters. The stage was decorated with spring colors, and the students waited nervously behind the curtain. Some adjusted their uniforms, while others quietly practiced difficult sections one last time.

Backstage, Mr. Nuss gathered the students together.

"You've worked hard for this moment," he told them. "Tonight isn't about being perfect. It's about sharing your talent, showing your growth, and enjoying the music you've created together."

His words helped calm the students' nerves.

When the curtain opened, the audience welcomed the performers with applause. The concert began with an energetic instrumental piece performed by the band. The musicians played confidently, demonstrating the skills they had developed throughout the school year.

Next came the choir. Their voices filled the auditorium with beautiful harmonies that impressed everyone in attendance. Parents smiled proudly as they watched their children perform. Several audience members recorded the performance to share with family members who could not attend.

The concert continued with a variety of selections, including classical music, contemporary songs, and student favorites. Each performance showcased the hard work, discipline, and teamwork that Mr. Nuss had emphasized throughout the year.

One of the highlights of the evening was a special combined performance featuring both the band and choir. The students worked together to create a powerful musical presentation that earned a standing ovation from the audience.

As the final notes faded away, the crowd erupted into applause. Students looked at one another with pride, realizing they had accomplished something special.

Mr. Nuss stepped onto the stage and thanked everyone for attending.

"This concert represents months of dedication from these students," he said. "Their success tonight is the result of commitment, teamwork, and a love of music."

The audience applauded once more, recognizing the effort of both the students and their teacher.

As families left the auditorium that evening, they talked about their favorite performances and congratulated the students. The Spring Concert had been a tremendous success, and everyone agreed that it was one of the best concerts Denby High School had hosted.

For Mr. Nuss and his music students, the evening was more than just a performance. It was a celebration of growth, confidence, creativity, and the power of music to bring people together. The memories created that night would remain with them long after the final applause had ended.
